Hotel Rantapuisto wants to make future tourism even more sustainable. Responsible tourism is developed in the long term, and it can be seen in Rantapuisto, for example, in reducing water consumption, reducing food waste, ecologically sustainable waste management and responsible procurement. Since 2018, Hotel Rantapuisto has also been awarded the international environmental certificate Green Key for the accommodation and tourism sector.

Hotel Rantapuisto has held the Green Key certification since 2018. Green Key is an internationally recognised eco-label for the tourism and hospitality industry. It reflects a long-term commitment to sustainable practices and continuous improvement in everyday operations, such as using energy and water efficiently, reducing waste through recycling, offering local, plant-based and organic products, and using eco-labelled cleaning products and paper. It also supports more sustainable ways for guests to travel and enjoy nature. In addition, the destinations that have received the Green Key label aim to increase the environmental awareness of staff and customers.

How environmental responsibility shows in our daily operations

Reducing water consumption: In our kitchen, we lower water use by optimising how equipment is used and by following shared guidelines. We cool food using a cooling cabinet instead of running cold water. We also encourage guests to enjoy Finland’s exceptionally clean tap water, a more sustainable alternative to bottled water.

Reducing food waste: By monitoring and reducing food waste, we lessen environmental impact. Practical examples include using smaller plates and selling well-preserved products in our lobby bar.

Waste management and sorting: Daily sorting and responsible waste handling help reduce landfill load and unnecessary environmental burden. At Rantapuisto, waste bins are sized to match real needs, and sorting and waste practices are included in the onboarding and training of every team member.

Environmentally friendly activities: Our location next to Natura Viva offers many opportunities for low-impact nature activities. Guests can also borrow bicycles during their stay.

Responsible procurement and partners: We make responsible purchasing choices, including responsibly and ecologically produced workwear used by our reception and restaurant teams. Our cleaning partner, SOL Palvelut, holds the Nordic Swan Ecolabel for hotel cleaning.
