Hotel Rantapuisto wants to make future tourism even more sustainable. Responsible tourism is developed in the long term, and it can be seen in Rantapuisto, for example, in reducing water consumption, reducing food waste, ecologically sustainable waste management and responsible procurement. Since 2018, Hotel Rantapuisto has also been awarded the international environmental certificate Green Key for the accommodation and tourism sector.
Hotel Rantapuisto has held the Green Key certification since 2018. Green Key is an internationally recognised eco-label for the tourism and hospitality industry. It reflects a long-term commitment to sustainable practices and continuous improvement in everyday operations, such as using energy and water efficiently, reducing waste through recycling, offering local, plant-based and organic products, and using eco-labelled cleaning products and paper. It also supports more sustainable ways for guests to travel and enjoy nature. In addition, the destinations that have received the Green Key label aim to increase the environmental awareness of staff and customers.
How Environmental Responsibility Is Reflected in Our Daily Operations:
Reducing water consumption: Kitchen equipment is used efficiently through shared operating practices, food is cooled in refrigeration units instead of under running water, and guests are encouraged to choose clean Finnish tap water instead of bottled water.
Energy efficiency: Solar panels on the hotel roof generate renewable energy for the property, and energy consumption is monitored as part of our ongoing environmental work.
Reducing food waste: Food waste is actively monitored and reduced through practical measures such as using smaller plates and offering long-lasting products for sale in the lobby bar.
Responsible food choices: We favour local, plant-based and organic products whenever possible. Our breakfast buffet includes, among other items, Paulig Mundo organic coffee and locally produced products such as yoghurts from Helsingin Meijeriliike.
Waste management and recycling: Recycling is part of our daily routine. Waste collection points are sized according to need, and waste management practices form an essential part of employee onboarding.
Supporting biodiversity: Natural meadow areas on the hotel grounds help provide food sources and habitats for pollinators and other beneficial insects.
Environmentally friendly activities: Our proximity to Natura Viva's outdoor services supports sustainable nature-based activities, and bicycles are available for guests to borrow.
Responsible procurement and partnerships: Our reception and restaurant teams use responsibly and sustainably produced workwear, while our housekeeping partner, 4Clean Services, follows environmentally responsible cleaning practices, uses eco-friendly cleaning products, and operates under the guidance of the EcoCompass environmental certification.
